Athi River Steel Works

Production visibility and KRA compliance for an Athi River steel plant

Production delays dropped 28%, every batch is traceable from raw material to delivery note, and fiscal invoices transmit at dispatch without a separate step.

Challenge

Production planning lived in spreadsheets. Batch traceability was manual, dispatch invoicing delayed shipments, and KRA eTIMS compliance required a separate workflow that finance hated.

Solution

Altify deployed iProduction for BOM management, shop-floor tracking, and quality checkpoints — integrated with eTIMS on dispatch and Leesify ERP for procurement and financials.

Impact

The situation

Athi River Steel Works supplies construction firms across Kenya and Tanzania. Growing order volumes exposed gaps in production scheduling, raw material tracking, and tax-compliant invoicing at the dispatch gate.

Our approach

We mapped the factory floor into iProduction work centres — melting, rolling, cutting, and dispatch. Each batch gets a unique ID linked to supplier lots and customer orders.

eTIMS integrates at dispatch: the moment a delivery note prints, the fiscal invoice hits KRA. Finance no longer batch-uploads at month end.

What changed

Plant managers see bottlenecks before they stall the line. Auditors trace any coil back to its source batch in minutes.

"KRA used to keep us up at night. Now compliance is just part of dispatch — we don't think about it separately." — Finance Controller, Athi River Steel Works
